MythForge brings a complete D&D 5e game master’s toolkit to iOS — offline, and for a one-time price
ONTARIO, Canada — July 26, 2026
MythForge, a game master’s toolkit for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, is coming to iPhone and iPad. It runs entirely on the device, costs a one-time $9.99 with no subscription and no in-app purchases, and is built around a simple premise: the tools a GM reaches for mid-session should work whether or not the venue has Wi-Fi.
Most tabletop apps assume a connection and a recurring bill. Game shops, basements, and kitchen tables routinely offer neither. Every core feature in MythForge — the bestiary, the generator, the tracker, the dice, the notes — works with the network off.
What it does
- Generates a complete 5e NPC stat block in one tap — name, ancestry, occupation, ability scores, and derived numbers — for the blacksmith you invented mid-sentence.
- Tracks initiative and hit points for a whole encounter, including mobs, without paper.
- Draws battle maps with fog of war, and lets players follow along in a browser by entering a code. No app install and no account on their side.
- Ships the SRD bestiary offline, searchable and filterable by challenge rating.
- Keeps campaign notes with tap-to-reveal secrets, so a GM can open notes at the table without spoiling what is behind them.
- Rolls anything, with the arithmetic shown rather than hidden.
- Includes a ready-to-run one-shot, so the app is playable the evening it is installed.
A shared library that does not hold your work hostage
MythForge’s Vault is a shared library of monsters, NPCs, items, and spells published by other game masters. Browsing it is free and requires no account at all; an account is what lets a GM pull that work into their own library, upvote it, publish their own, and back up everything they have made.
Everything in the Vault travels as Mythcode — plain YAML any text editor can read. A creature that casts a homebrew spell or swings a homebrew sword brings them along, so what one GM pulls is what the author actually ran at their table. Nothing a GM makes is trapped in the app: it can be pasted into a group chat as readily as published.
Pricing
A one-time $9.99 on the App Store. No subscription, no in-app purchases, and no paid tier of features held back. A free account — needed only for publishing, pulling, and cloud backup — costs nothing.
I kept buying tools that stopped working the moment the game shop’s Wi-Fi went down, or that wanted a monthly fee to keep showing me monsters I already owned. I wanted the opposite: something that lives on the device, that I pay for once, and that hands my own work back to me in a format I can read.
